Odysseus and Telemaches Meet

It has been sometime since I have posted anything about The Odyssey, here are some notes on Book 16

BOOK 16

Odysseus and Telemachus meet in the hut of the swineherd; they plan how to kill the suitors.

Odysseus and Eumaeus are preparing breakfast, when someone approaches; however, the dogs are not barking and carrying on as dogs sometimes do. Eumaeus goes the door and sees that it is Telemachus, they exchange greetings and Telemachus asks about his Mother. Is she is still at the house or has married on of the suitors? Eumaeus says she is still at the house grieving and weeping continually. They sit down and eat when Telemachus asks “Where does this stranger comes from?” Eumaeus answeres that is a Cretan escaping a Thesprotian ship and remember that he is your suppliant. Telemachus instructs Eumaeus to go to town and tell his mother that he has returned, and have her send the message to Laertes. After Eumaeus departs, Athene makes herself visible to Odysseus, changes his appearance and makes himself known to his son. They have a tearful reunion and begin planning overtaking the suitors.
